Conference on implementation of the 2023 plan for sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation

On 14/12/2022, the Conference on Implementation of the 2023 Operation Plan of Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation (VFBC) took place in Cat Tien National Park, under the chairmanship of Cat Tien National Park Director, Mr. Pham Xuan Thinh. The conference was pleased to have the participation of delegates representing the Forestry Project Management Board led by Mr. Hoang Van Mat – Deputy Director of the Central VFBC Project Management Board, representatives of VFBC Hanoi project office led by Mr. Nicholas John Cox, representatives of the VFBC project office of Lam Dong province and Cat Tien National Park led by Mr. Nguyen Van Toai, representatives of Helvetas organization led by Ms. Hoang Thi Lua, representatives of local authorities of Tan Phu district and 3 buffer zone communes, and consultants for the project.

The conference aims to summarize the results of the implementation of the VFBC – Cat Tien National Park project in 2022, report on the activities performed, the achievements as well as the limitations in the project implementation process, thereby making a plan to implement the project in 2023. After the meeting and discussion between delegates, Mr. Pham Xuan Thinh concluded: Cat Tien National Park is a beneficiary that will try to participate in project activities to ensure efficiency.

• Local activities: research to support buffer zone communes, Cat Tien National Park is also supported by other projects with similar activities, it is necessary to study the effective use of resources. • Approved capital plans and allocations: accelerate progress, develop terms of reference, need to discuss carefully between the parties so that when consulting and implementing effectively. • New ideas: in the process of implementation in 2023, it is possible to adjust and reallocate funds. • Ensure tangible products, suitable for Cat Tien National Park.

The project "Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation" (VFBC) funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was implemented from 4/2021 to 31/12/2026. Component 2 – Biodiversity conservation aims to maintain and enhance forest quality and protect and stabilize wildlife species in provinces with high conservation value (Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue (TT Huế), Quang Nam and Lam Dong. The goal of the component is to target 14 special-use forests and at least 5 protective forests, in collaboration with forest management in the area to maintain forest cover and connect important habitats to protect endemic and endangered species in Vietnam. The project is jointly implemented by WWF Vietnam, Helvetas Vietnam, Fauna & Flora International Flora Conservation in Vietnam (FFI), Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife, Global Wildlife Conservation Organization (Re: wild – formerly Global Wildlife Conservation, GWC), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Nature Education Centre – ENV.
